CleanShot X instal3/2/2024 So if you frequently are connecting your AirPods to your Mac for Zoom calls, listening to Apple Music, etc., AirBuddy will become one of your favorite apps. AirBuddy makes it even easier on the Mac, though. One of the benefits of Apple’s W1/H1 chips is how easy it is to pair AirPods and Powerbeats Pro to your iOS device. AirBuddyĪirBuddy was developed by 9to5Mac’s Gui Rambo, and I’ve been using the original version since it was released in 2019. It’s a free download, but if you end up enjoying it, you’ll want to check out the optional Powerpack. It also includes keyboard snippets (a basic version of what TextExpander does), converting text into different cases, launching apps, quickly looking up contacts, and more. I love quickly swapping what’s on my keyboard without manually recopying something. My most-used feature is the clipboard history (it even works with images). It’s a macOS launcher that I highly recommend you check out. Without a doubt, the app I use most on my Mac is Alfred. I also use it for all my two-factor authentication code storage as well. They include support for secure notes with attachments, personal information such as social security numbers, app license information, credit card information, passport information, and more. Outside of just password management, there are many features that 1Password supports that make it something worth paying for (vs. I’ve personally been using it since some of the earliest OS X versions. 1PasswordġPassword is an app I wouldn’t want to be without. Muse paint bar glastonbury3/2/2024 ![]() ![]() Striding casually onstage with a cheery "hey!" they begin with Uprising – essentially what the Dr Who theme tune would sound like if Slade had written it in 1973 – before throwing away their biggest pop hit, Supermassive Black Hole, inside the first 10 minutes. But otherwise Muse's set is a ballsy, no-frills trawl through 21st-century rock's most powerful canon. The Pyramid stage – the cultural Canaveral from which Muse launched themselves into the headline hierarchy back in 2004 – gets as much of Muse 2010 as it can accommodate: steam flumes close Knights of Cydonia, honeycomb screens beam out hi-def visuals and pretty much everything they touch lights up – Dominic Howard's drums, Matt Bellamy's keytar and even the strings of his grand piano. Instead, the Devon three-piece focus on their music's sheer rock wallop. For some, anything short of the Pyramid stage literally lifting off for Mars will be a disappointment. Last year they scrapped the huge laser-beaming satellite set from their Wembley stadium stint and toured an arena show featuring a trio of hydraulic tower blocks now they've recycled them (we hope, for the planet's sake) into a swarm of flying saucers and a gigantic Tokyo corner office for their current tour. And like the best rock magicians, they never repeat the same trick twice. ![]() But still, they come: though Muse fail to arrive in the massive inflatable UFO they've been promising to sneak past every festival health and safety official since V2008, they still prove themselves a formidable celestial invasion.Įxpectations are understandably high: Muse have won every best live band award from here to Timbuktu on account of their resplendent space operas, thump-along pop hits and knack for a stadium-sized spectacle. Yet these aesthetic experiences do not result in a rejection of political engagements – a charge often levied against autofiction. One aspect of this sincerity stems from a drive for ‘authentic experiences’, struggling against the ‘prevailing culture of anxiety about the direction of aesthetic experience in an era of hypercommodification’ (xiv). Even Kraus’ I Love Dick (1997), originally published by Semiotext(e), has enjoyed a twenty-first century renaissance through a series of new editions, and it functions as a precursor to post-millennial fixations with autofiction and its political efficacy.Ī fundamental claim of Contemporary Novelists posits that ‘recent self-reflexive American novels from the last ten years exhibit a mode of aesthetic sincerity that is less about parody and more about ethical authenticity’ (xiv). All but one of the novels analysed fit into the bracket of post-millennial production. The chapters are thematically led, covering novels by Zadie Smith, Teju Cole, Siri Hustvedt, Chris Kraus, Sheila Heti, Ben Lerner, Rachel Kushner, and Ottessa Moshfegh. Kingston-Reese considers how these experiences are mediated through a series of ‘art-novels’, which reflect upon ways of seeing, reading, and feeling.Īcross five chapters, Contemporary Novelists explores how aesthetic experiences are ‘enriched by a paradoxical concern with the ineffability and inexpressibility of personal and communal losses or disasters’, and how these losses are amplified in works that draw on the ‘anxious tone of postmillennial artistic production’ (18). Contemporary Novelists illuminates the affective sense through which we experience ‘the aesthetic’ in our post-millennial present – the particular tempos and rhythms that insinuate the experiences of art into everyday life and vice-versa. ![]() But as soon as you move from that impulse to the actual poem, the song of the infinite is compromised by the finitude of its terms’ (13).Īlexandra Kingston-Reese’s monograph, Contemporary Novelists and the Aesthetics of Twenty-First Century American Life ( 2020), is a compelling study that takes Lerner’s claims to task, tracing how contemporary novels ‘stage and critique aesthetic experience’, while also engaging with a ‘particular kind of ethics for the contemporary aesthetic subject’ (5). Lerner echoes this sentiment in the book-length essay The Hatred of Poetry ( 2016): ‘You’re moved to write a poem, you feel called upon to sing, because of that transcendent impulse. ![]() The reality of these everyday encounters with artworks simultaneously strives towards and resists the possibility of ‘profundity’, as this experience is both informed and clouded by a critical language that obscures just as much as it elucidates. Gordon elaborates upon his own sense of detachment: ‘I was interested in the disconnect between my experience of actual artworks and the claims made on their behalf the closest I’d come to having a profound experience of art was probably the experience of this distance, a profound experience of the absence of profundity’ (9). Lerner’s protagonist and doppelganger, Adam Gordon, worries that he might be incapable of such an experience, and is deeply suspicious of those who claim that poetry, music, or paintings have ‘changed their life’ (9). What does it mean, as Ben Lerner asks in Leaving the Atocha Station ( 2011), to have a ‘profound experience of art’? (9). It would be great if there were one app that could handle all the things, but that’s hard to come by. I have not tried Typora but could tell just from their website that it’s not what I want. But this is a very handy I have submitted a request to check out Nota. ![]() Not all of that would make my 1.0 (I don’t see the same need for Shortcuts support, at least not for 1.0). Maybe Thank you for the reminder about Snell’s article. I’d assume this project would take a year. I have been a front-end web dev for some years now, and I can handle the basics of JS and PHP, which is a mile away from Swift, so it would take some time to learn. Y’all have been very helpful here, thanks! Good news, I don’t even mind subscriptions! When you finish your app, I’ll be customer #1. I make do with Taio, Nota, Zettlr, Panda but also primarily, like you, iA Writer, Obsidian and NotePlan. Like Ulysses it doesn’t let you easily control your own data, but it’s visually very pleasant. Again, it’s an electron app but a goodie. Has linking, graphs and charts, and academic ref manager integration. Same, Electron app but better than Obsidian. This is an electron app, like Obsidian, but done properly (unlike obsidian) Unfortunately the dev is stubbornly against live preview of markdown, but perhaps they’ll have to change their mind if enough people ask. Some names for you to check out if you’re not already familiar with them: More to the point perhaps, there are so many markdown editors these days that while I completely believe you that your perfect one doesn’t exist (mind doesn’t either), I suspect you can approximate the perfect one with a collection of imperfect ones. ![]() How much time do you have? Experience coders, I’m looking forward to hearing what you suggest. In my learning a little bit of Swift I quickly came to the conclusion that, while absolutely not rocket-science, app-building probably takes a long time for the first timer to get right. I suspect you may be underestimating a little bit the trouble involved in writing an app from scratch. I agree with you on Obsidian and NotePlan. I’ve had much the same wish, not just for a markdown editor, but even more so in my case for an academic reference manager. Is there any interest in this? Do y’all think there might be a market for this? And for those of you who code, would an app like this be too much for a first-timer to build? If iA Writer and Obsidian had a baby, basically. I write my blog posts in Ulysses, and annotate Scripture there as well for my own edification.Īfter much thought, I’m considering learning SwiftUI and Swift so I can build a macOS and iOS app with a focus on markdown rendering and wiki-style links. Like Markdown footnotes, or better-looking type in a long numbered list, or file names. Noteplan is good, but I don’t need the “plan” part, and there are several features I wish it supports that it does not support. Obsidian isn’t native, and I don’t like it. I wanted to include links to meeting notes and the like throughout the day, which led me down a rabbit hole towards Obsidian and Noteplan. For years, I’ve written down what I do for work every day in Day One. Kirby meta knight game3/2/2024 Waxing Crescent Masked Meta Knight can launch four Sword Beams instead of two, and his partner can reflect one, splitting it into nine smaller beams. Rather than knocking four stone structures across the ground, Waning Crescent Masked Dedede launches six, and each one is aimed at Kirby's vertical position. When using their team strike, they rise into the air and move slightly left or right, so the ensuing energy pillar reaches one edge of the screen. The most apparent change is the amount of damage each attack does-the boss's collective strength is greatly amplified. Waning Crescent Masked Dedede & Waxing Crescent Masked Meta Knight combine their forces for a powerful attack.ĭue to the mask's intensity, the battle with these opponents is slightly different from the one fought in Chapter 4. You will also have to disconnect the windshield washer and wiper motor, I found it easier to unbolt the wiper and the motor from the firewall to give me access to the bolt in the firewall. Once this bolt is loose you can then pull the harness straight out of the connector on the firewall. Once the harness was out of the core support I disconnected the horns and used a 1/4" socket to loosten the bolt that holds the harness connector to the firewall. Getting the sockets and turn signals through the space between the core support and the AC evaporator was hard but a large screwdriver allowed me to slightly bend the core support to allow them to be threaded through. ![]() It was held on by a bunch of plastic snap on clips, which broke when I tried to remove them. The Monte Carlo LS harness replaced the original El Camino SS one perfectly, the hardest part was getting the old harness out of the core support. See the photos, you just have to remove the big plastic connectors from the Monte harness by using a weatherpack connector tool to release the clips, then snap on the smaller plastic connectors from the Celebrity. The weatherpack connectors are the exact same on the Monte LS and the Celebrity, the wires are even the same colors. The only change needed is to remove the weatherpack connectors from the headlight plugs and snapping them into the Celebrity plastic plugs. From 1986-1988 the LS had sealed beam headlights, and although they are not a direct replacement for the SS nose, the wiring harness is a complete plug and play replacement for my original harness. After investigating the electrical issues I found that the easiest way to do everything neat and without hacking up the harness was to use a Monte Carlo LS wiring harness. I can replace the headlights with the sealed beam headlights making changing the bulbs simple like a new car. The listing notes that the El Camino has been further upgraded with new headers and a Flowmaster exhaust, ensuring the El Camino will sound as good as it looks.Figured I'd add this into the thread, I bought the 1990 Celebrity headlights and lauren engineering brackets for the Choo Choo Customs nose. The seller doesn’t distinguish between the two, so you’ll have to get in touch for clarification. The replacement engine presents well, but here’s my question: it’s not outside of the realm of possibility for the replacement engine to have 56,000 miles on it, or for the chassis to have that many. No word on whether the air conditioning works on this car. To me, the work done on the exterior would be nicely complemented by some upgraded bucket seats, a different steering wheel, and perhaps a set of carpeted floor mats with the Choo Choo logo. To say nothing about the lack of mechanical enhancements, the interior also emerged essentially unchanged after the Choo Choo work save for a small badge on the glove box door. The challenge for me with the Choo Choo conversions is that they didn’t go very far. The seller’s car is in very nice condition, with an interior that isn’t perfect but still looks better than 56,000 miles might suggest. There’s no denying that the enhanced looks were definitely an improvement the question is, how much are those improvements worth? This alone made the El Camino looks much more aggressive, along with additional SS graphics, rally wheels, white-letter radials, and a custom rear bumper. The biggest change was the nose, which benefitted from an upgrade to the Monte Carlo SS front end. The conversions performed by the Tennesee company certainly helped to up the attitude factor of the standard El Camino, even if they didn’t do much to affect the actual horsepower. That’s a lot of scratch for an El Camino, even if it’s a genuine Choo Choo. The El Camino seen here is cosmetically sharp and also benefits from several mechanical improvements, including a new Jasper transmission and GM Goodwrench 350 engine. The Choo Choo Customs enterprise built numerous conversions, largely focusing on vans, but the El Camino was perhaps the more popular model in terms of long-term staying power. ![]() It’s located in Rhode Is56land, but the seller confirms it was previously garaged in North Carolina, which hopefully means it was never driven in the road salt and slop. This 1986 Chevrolet El Camino SS is a genuine Choo Choo conversion, and with just 56,000 miles, it hasn’t exactly been over-used. Landscaping side of house3/2/2024 ![]() Plants are our favorite tool to achieve privacy in a side yard. Whatever you do, avoid gaps in paving to avoid a bumpy roll. For side yards with grander intentions, you’ll want to choose path materials in the same way that you do in other parts of the yard, considering style and function to make sure your path is easy to use, attractive, and cohesive with the rest of the design. One caveat: if you roll trash cans or wheelbarrows down your side yard regularly, you’ll want a stable surface. Gravel is a great option, as is decomposed granite, but if you have existing paving, simply leaving it be may be your best bet. For side yards that are seldom used, keep it cheap. If you plan to do more with your side yard, we suggest investments can rise to support your goals. If your side yard will only be a passage to get from A to B, you should limit your investment in it, prioritizing spending on other higher impact areas of the yard instead. Side yards are often the least utilized space on a property. What pavers or walkway materials should I use in a side yard? ![]() Usually it’s some combination of a few things. It could also mean new hardscape zones, for reading, eating, or entertaining. This could mean mixed planting, with trees and small scenes of perennials and shrubs interspersed with patches of groundcover planting. Rather than simply replace lawn with a single massive groundcover planting, we look to create the biggest positive impact with the area occupied by the lawn. If you are looking to swap in new planting, the world is your oyster! While few plants can match grass’s toughness underfoot, many groundcovers can handle limited foot traffic, including the floral blue star creeper and creeping thyme, and green favorites like Scotch moss and dwarf mondo grass. Artificial turf or mulch are optimal for play surfaces, while gravel and decomposed granite are affordable and effective for utilitarian zones. Great question! There is no shortage of options when you are looking for a lawn replacement. What should I plant in my side yard instead of grass? When choosing prefab elements, aim for consistency – a unifying theme, be it a color, a texture, or some other repeated characteristic, helps a design look intentional. The movability of free-standing furniture helps to minimize barriers, maintaining openness in the limited space side yards typically offer. Prefabricated design elements, from furniture, to plant containers, to fire pits, also offer an affordable and flexible way to achieve a broad range of design goals. Key planting can help to emphasize spaces while avoiding barriers – vines on walls, upright screening plants, container plants positioned at corners, or (our favorite) small trees planted adjacent to seating areas are all tried and true solutions to lend character and definition to spaces without interrupting flow. Those looking to minimize expenses or complete a quick diy could rely on cost-effective groundcover materials like gravel and decomposed granite to establish distinct zones.
